Ponton, Oranjestad
A barbershop in Oranjestad, Aruba
Island Fades Elite sits at Ponton 2, Unit 2, in the Ponton district of Oranjestad. Ponton is one of those pockets of the capital that most people drive past without registering — inland of the harbourfront, a few minutes from Caya G. F. Betico Croes and the Renaissance area, but off the stretch where the cruise traffic collects. That is the whole appeal of the address. You are close to everything in town without having to fight the part of town that everyone else is in.
Oranjestad is not short of barbers. Walk Wilhelminastraat and you will pass several, and there are good ones among them. What is genuinely rare here is a shop that runs on booked time. Most of the island still works on the queue model: you arrive, you see how many people are ahead of you, and you decide whether the afternoon is worth it. We took the other route. Every chair is reserved in advance, online, and the slot you pick is the slot you get.
The practical difference shows up most for people coming in from outside the capital. If you are driving down from Noord, or up from Savaneta, or across from Paradera or Santa Cruz, the drive is the cost — and it is only worth paying if the chair is ready when you arrive. A booking makes the trip predictable. That is why a fair share of our clients are not from Oranjestad at all.
The work is the work: skin and taper fades, line-ups, full haircuts with the beard and eyebrows detailed, beard shaping, colour and bleach work, kids’ cuts, and freehand design. Every cut starts with a conversation about your head rather than a number on a guard, which sounds like a small thing and is the entire difference between a cut that suits you and a cut that merely happened to you.
Finding us. Street addressing in Aruba is loose, and “Ponton 2” geocodes imprecisely in most apps. Navigate to the plus code GXM9+7G Oranjestad instead, or open the map link in your confirmation email — both land on the door rather than the general area. Look for Unit 2. If you are circling the block, call +297 561 0003 and someone will talk you in.
Visiting rather than living here? The shop is a short drive from the cruise terminal and from the Palm Beach and Eagle Beach hotel strips, and we have written a separate page covering the questions visitors actually ask — when in your trip to book, how long to allow, what happens if a shore excursion overruns. Read the visitor’s guide.
Booking takes under a minute: pick a barber, a service and a time. The price shows before you confirm, and the confirmation email carries reschedule and cancel buttons in case the day moves.
Finding the shop, answered
Where exactly in Oranjestad are you?
Ponton 2, Unit 2 - in the Ponton district of Oranjestad, a little back from the centre and off the main shopping street. The plus code GXM9+7G drops a pin on the door in Google Maps or Waze, which is more reliable here than the street address alone.
How far is the shop from the centre of Oranjestad?
A few minutes' drive. Ponton sits just inland of the harbourfront, so you're close to Caya G. F. Betico Croes, the Renaissance area and the cruise terminal without sitting in the middle of the traffic that comes with them.
Do you take clients from outside Oranjestad?
Regularly. We're a single shop serving the whole island - clients drive in from Noord, Paradera, Santa Cruz and Savaneta. Because everything runs on appointments rather than a queue, a drive across the island doesn't turn into an hour of waiting when you arrive.
Do I need to book, or can I just turn up?
Book. The shop runs on appointments, so a booked chair is the only chair we can promise you. If a slot happens to be open when you walk in we'll take you, but that is luck rather than a plan.
How do I find the unit once I'm in Ponton?
Navigate to the plus code rather than the street name, and look for Unit 2. Your confirmation email carries the address and a map link. If you're circling, call the shop and someone will talk you in.
